Occidental Chemical
TAKE ACTION TODAY! In June, 2001, DEP issued a permit to Occidental for an enormous INCREASE in HAZARDOUS AIR EMISSIONS to burn Pottstown Landfill gas as fuel in their boilers. This CONCENTRATION of HAZARDOUS AIR EMISSIONS would INCREASE the HEALTH RISKS for all those exposed. This would be especially dangerous to our children and those already sick. The majority of physicians from Pottstown Memorial Medical Center and the Phoenixville Hospital have acknowledged a significant increase in pollution-induced disease in our area. They do not believe we can risk more pollution problems and that the permit to Occidental to concentrate such hazardous air emissions is a bad idea. The physicians have petitioned the Governor to revoke DEP’s permit to Occidental to increase hazardous air emissions to avoid such a dangerous concentration to protect the health of all exposed. These petitions were ignored. Senator Gerlach, and Representatives Dailey and Hennessey have all been requested to arrange a meeting with a delegation from the Greater Pottstown Area and our Governor, to try to protect you from the pipeline project. All three officials failed to intercede on your behalf. Toro Energy recently withdrew from the Pottstown Landfill gas pipeline project. Occidental’s hazardous air increase permit should have been null and void, but that is not the case. The threat to your family, friends, and neighbors’ health still exists. DEP refused to revoke Occidental’s permit. Occidental says it is “exploring its options”. ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Why should Occidental, one of the worst polluters in the state, be permitted to increase the poisons they put in your air? It is time for Rafferty, Dailey, and Hennessey, your elected state officials, to take meaningful action to protect your air. All three ignored documented evidence of harm and common sense for the past four years! E-mail, write, fax or phone your elected state representatives to stop this threat:
Message: Toro’s Pottstown Landfill Gas Pipeline Project Proposal has been withdrawn. Occidental’s permit should be void. As our elected official, we expect you to find a way to get Occidental’s permit which allows increased hazardous air emissions for that proposal, revoked. It is time for you to stand up to protect the health and safety of our family, friends, and neighbors, who are your constituents. (If they use excuses or fail to act, remember that election day!)
