Our air is being poisoned by Occidental Chemical in Pottstown, one of the largest emitters in the nation of vinyl chloride, a documented potent human carcinogen.

Given the shocking cancer statistics in the region, there is little doubt that Occidental's enormous vinyl chloride emissions are a major factor.

Each year Occidental emits over 100,000 pounds of vinyl chloride into our air, (130,000 pounds in 1999).

Exposure to this amount of vinyl chloride, year after year, obviously takes its toll and cancer is not the only health risk.

The more PVC Occidental produces, the more dioxin we breathe. Everyone in the nation is at dangerous levels of dioxin in their bodies but we are at far greater risk.

1. While Louisiana residents have many vinyl chloride plants, we have one of the largest vinyl chloride emitters in the nation. The more vinyl chloride, the more dioxin.

2. There are 5 potential combustion sources creating dioxin by-products at the Pottstown Landfill. 2 full time and 1 part time flare and 2 turbines. We are exposed to this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
